“What’s more important than the intensity of the challenge you face in life is how you relate to yourself in the midst of it.”

FAQ

  • What type of sessions do you offer and when do you work?

I work both online (via Zoom or FaceTime) and in-person at a central Farnham location. I offer online counselling sessions throughout the week (Tue-Fri), and in-person counselling sessions on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Eaves in central Farnham. I have availability for both daytime and evening appointments. I do not work during the weekend.

  • What can I expect from the first session?

I offer the initial online or in-person session at the reduced fee of £40 as an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to decide whether we feel comfortable working together. In this first session, I will ask you about what brought you to counselling and about what you hope to gain from your sessions. I will also ask you about previous counselling experience —what you found helpful and unhelpful— and I will explain the way we could work together. The decision about whether you wish to continue working with me is completely up to you.

  • Will I need to talk about difficult issues?

You don’t have to talk about anything that you don’t want to bring in therapy. You are the one who will be leading the sessions and we will be working at your own pace. At times, during the therapeutic process, difficult or painful issues may be brought up; at those times I will emotionally hold you and I will be with you, so you can feel safe and supported in exploring whatever comes up for you.

  • How long do sessions last and how often will I need to attend therapy?

All sessions last for 50 minutes and they are usually offered on a weekly basis. You could also choose to have sessions on a fortnightly basis if you feel that this is more suitable for you and your personal circumstances.

  • Is everything I tell you confidential?

Everything you share with me stays between us and it is confidential. There are just a few exceptions where I may need to break confidentiality, which I will outline and clearly explain to you in our initial session.

  • How much do you charge?

The fee for both in-person and online video sessions is £60. I have limited availability for concessionary rates for online sessions, and for student counsellors.

  • How do I book an appointment?

If you have any more questions or you feel ready to book an initial appointment , please email, text or call me and I will get back to you within 24 hours.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the complexity of the issues you want to work on and on whether you would like to work in a time-limited way or in an open-ended/long-term way. It’s completely up to you to choose how many sessions you wish to have, and you can conclude the therapeutic work at any time.

  • What's the difference in having short-term and open-ended therapy?

Short-term therapy is usually offered when you want to focus on a specific goal or a pattern of thinking or behaviour that you may want to change. in this case, we could start with 6 sessions, after which we could do a review of our work together and decide on future sessions. Open-ended therapy is usually offered when you want to explore the root cause of your difficulties, to increase your self-awareness and to understand the reasons that perhaps keep you stuck in certain types of thinking, behaviour and relating that may be unhelpful. Long-term therapy could last for several months or even years.
